About us

Last updated June 26, 2026

War on Homelessness is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We don't run shelters, and we don't hand out blankets. We pay rent on real apartments and put unhoused neighbors inside them — then we keep them there with food, medical care, and a caseworker on call.

The model

It's called Housing First, and it's the most-studied solution to chronic homelessness in the country. People stabilize in housing, not on waiting lists. 92¢ of every dollar reaches a resident; you can read the full breakdown on our Financials page.

Why it works

  • A signed lease is cheaper than a hospital bed, a jail cell, or a shelter cot — and it lasts.
  • 92% of our residents remain housed 12 months after placement.
  • Every $1,200 in donations = one full month of rent for one neighbor.

Who runs it

We are a small, volunteer-led team backed by an independent board. Caseworkers in the field, no overhead bloat. Names, bios, and board roster available on request.
